Campfire desserts

Do we have to mention the famous marshmallow?

Yes, yes we do!   Because these days we get braai-mallows; big, soft, squishy, fluffy things that we impale on the end of a kebab stick and charcoal over hot coals!

Sounds like some form of medieval torture, but tastes like sugary-sweet, gooey yumminess.

Dip those suckers in some melted chocolate, or squish on top of a bowl of

ice-cream, whatever tickles your taste buds.

But here now, may I introduce you to a dessert with a difference…

Buy a couple of almost ripe bananas

Run a knife down the inside skin, just to make a slit to allow more heat in

Wrap each banana with tin foil and place directly on the braai grid

The now not-so-hot embers will gently cook the bananas and the skins will blacken.  Pierce thru’ the foil to check if they’re done.

Remove from braai, place into dessert bowl and open up the foil

Slice open fully the slit you made earlier, exposing the deliciously soft fruit

(Can you smell it)???

Drizzle with a bit of honey

Shake on a sprinkle of cinnamon

Top with a dollop of whipped cream and……..

ENJOY, eating straight out of the banana skin.

So yum, and healthier than the marshmallows
